What is MRCPCH?

The Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH) is an internationally recognised postgraduate qualification awarded by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH), UK. It is considered as a crucial milestone for doctors aspiring to specialise in paediatrics and child health.

If you are a passionate medical professional aiming to practise paediatrics in the UK, pursuing the MRCPCH provides a prestigious route to GMC registration, enabling you to legally practise as a paediatrician in the UK. Apart from the UK, it is accredited by prestigious institutions in Ireland, Singapore, India, and numerous countries across the Gulf, Asia, and Europe. Therefore, earning an MRCPCH makes you a highly sought-after candidate for a wide range of career opportunities across the world.

Structure of MRCPCH

The MRCPCH exam consists of four parts. Three of them test your theoretical knowledge, while the other one evaluates your clinical skills. The theory exams are non-sequential, so you can take them in any order. You must pass all three theory exams before you can apply for the final part, MRCPCH Clinical.

MRCPCH FOP/TAS

The MRCPCH FOP (Foundation of Practice) and TAS (Theory and Science) exams take place on the same day, with FOP in the morning and TAS in the afternoon.

Foundation of Practice: The FOP exam evaluates your understanding of clinical care for children, focusing on common conditions.

Theory and Science: The TAS exam focuses on the scientific, physiological, and pharmacological concepts that underpin clinical practice.

Applied Knowledge in Practice

The MRCPCH AKP tests a candidate’s knowledge, understanding and clinical decision-making abilities based on a standard of someone entering their core specialist training.

MRCPCH Clinical

The MRCPCH Clinical exam, the final part, comprehensively assesses your clinical skills and decision-making abilities, ensuring you meet the stringent standards for Specialty Training (ST4) in paediatrics.

Preparing for the MRCPCH is a challenging journey that requires thorough preparation to successfully complete the exams. If you have any questions about the MRCPCH or need assistance with your exam preparation, please reach out to our team. We are here to help you achieve your career goals.
