MRCPCH Exams
In order to achieve the MRCPCH qualification, candidates must successfully complete three theory exams and one clinical exam.
- Foundation of Practice (FOP) – A theory exam
- Theory and Science (TAS) – A theory exam
- Applied Knowledge in Practice (AKP) – A theory exam
- MRCPCH Clinical – A multi-station practical exam
The theory exams are non-sequential, so they can be taken in any order.

About MRCPCH FOP/TAS
The MRCPCH FOP (Foundation of Practice) and TAS (Theory and Science) exams are conducted on the same day, with FOP in the morning and TAS in the afternoon. While the FOP exam assesses your knowledge of clinical care for children by covering common conditions, the TAS exam tests the scientific, physiological, and pharmacological principles underlying clinical practice. Each exam consists of 100 single best answer (SBA) questions, and candidates are given two hours to complete each exam.
