MRCPCH Clinical: A quick overview

The MRCPCH Clinical exam is designed to test a candidate’s practical clinical skills, ensuring they meet the required ST4 standards. The candidates will engage in a circuit of 10 distinct stations or scenarios, each supervised by trained examiners. These stations may include interaction with children, young individuals, or adults acting as patients or family members, simulating real-world situations to assess communication, diagnostic skills, and clinical proficiency.

Quick preparation tips for MRCPCH clinical:

  1. Focus on clinical scenarios: Practice diverse paediatric cases, focusing on history-taking, physical examination and patient communication.
  2. Work on communication skills: Ensure you can explain complex information simply, especially when speaking with parents or family members.
  3. Simulate exam conditions: Practice with a time limit for each station to get comfortable with the format and pace.
  4. Engage in peer mock exams: Team up with fellow candidates to practice role-play scenarios and receive feedback.
  5. Revise key topics: Refresh core paediatric topics like growth assessment, developmental milestones and managing acute illnesses.
